Red Cliff Wis -- Ogitchidaa Fight Promotions founded in 2017 by Chris Hicks, a Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa member. Ogitchidaa Fight Promotions is the biggest Ojibwe unarmed combat sports promotion in the United States. Ogitchidaa Fight Promotions is active in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and South Dakota.  Chris is the youngest unarmed combat sports promoter in the entire Midwest.  Chris began his journey in 2009 as a cage fighter.  Ogitchidaa Fight Promotions has over 5,000+ follows on the Facebook page, and is by in-large the foremost fight promotion company in the Midwest.

Chris has had over 40 unarmed combat sports fights since 2017.  Meeting many promoters along the way, an old promoter he used to fight for offered him to buy out his promotion at a wholesale price.  Chris has always aspired to be in the fight promotions game, once presented with the opportunity, he dove in head first.  .

Now 4 years later Ogitchidaa Fight Promotions has traveled the Midwest as the only tri-state tribal promotion company around.  Currently, Chris has sent 1 First Nations fighter from the Yurok tribe in California to the UFC.

Orion Cosce and he was our first professional Welterweight champion. His partner, Danielle Maulson, daughter of Tom Maulson Jr. and Grand Daughter of the Great Walleye Warrior Tom Maulson Sr; she is the matchmaker of the promotion, and matches more fights than any female, which is a major accomplishment for an Ojibwe Woman.

Chris states, “The goal is beyond what the eye can see.  As a fighter I’ve always thought the sport needs better organization to help sustain careers for everyone and fair matchups.”  That is one of our first key points. On a much larger scale, is the culture of the Ojibwe people and the identity of the First Nations people. It’s not a secret First Nations people have survived the biggest genocide in human history and have been fighting for their heritage for over 500 years. Today many reservations including his own have problems with drug and alcohol abuse.

How do you solve this problem? This promotion is here as an outlet for the healing of a nation and for the cultural revitalization to all first nations people as a platform to show our resilience and strength in fighting.  For me this has been something to fight for and to build, my promotion for hope that we can chase our dreams no matter who you are and the opportunity to reach a stage bigger than yourself to show you fight for something.
